From the recording Christmas Dream

LINER NOTES: These lyrics were inspired by a few of the cards we received during the holiday season of 2005. My mother-in-law, Phyllis Kelly-Bouza, is a painter and sends out a card-sized version of one of her paintings every year. This one was called "Tree of Life" and it had an array of colors that remind you of an abstract stained glass. The other was from my cousin, Dean, who lives on the East Coast. It was of a lone pine bough lying in the snow. I loved its simplicity.

Just a note to say, despite this song's content, I am in no way judgmental about the Christmas Card thing. I don't send them out anymore either unless it's with a gift to one of my cousins or nieces across the miles. I do love to get the notes and letters that tell what a person has been up to, rather than just a name but the pretty card is always appreciated nevertheless.

CHRISTMAS CARDS is also included on the 2010 IDAHO HO HO, a compilation CD produced by Audio Lab for Moxie Java.

Lyrics

Red and green and gold, purple blue and rose / A lone pine bough lying in the snow / One a tree of life, the other pure and white / Everything I need to remind me of a hope-filled life

CHORUS #1: CHRISTMAS CARDS COME TO MY DOOR LIKE SO MANY YEARS BEFORE / BRINGING NEWS FROM FAR AND NEAR / I LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU EACH YEAR

Some only sign their names-- indicate that they are alive and well on the other side of their town / Others pen their news complete with pictures too / A window into the journey they survived this year

repeat chorus #1 (…hear from you each year): GLAD TO SEE YOU STILL BELIEVE BUT A WORD OR TWO I THRILL TO SEE / PENNED FROM YOU ABOUT YOUR LIFE / I LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IN WINTER TIME

Bridge: Oh the written word – a window into your world / Keep alive the friendships and the family ties / Cards of Christmas cheer – traverse the earth each year / Can we try to not let this tradition die?

C: CHRISTMAS CARDS COME TO MY DOOR LIKE SO MANY YEARS BEFORE / BRINGING NEWS FROM FAR AND NEAR / I LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU EACH YEAR
